1 died, 2 hospitalized as Florida high-rise crane section falls.

The collapse of a portion of a crane from a building in the downtown area of Fort Lauderdale on Thursday afternoon resulted in the death of one individual and the hospitalization of two others, according to the authorities.

During a news conference, Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue Chief Stephen Gollan stated that crews were in the process of "stepping the crane" during the construction of a high-rise structure.

This occurred when a component that was being prepped to increase the height of the crane became loose. According to the authorities, a construction worker suffered fatal injuries after falling with the crane portion from the crane. The crane itself stayed fastened to the structure via its attachments.

At the very least two automobiles were damaged as a result of the crane component landing on a neighboring bridge, according to Gollan.

At a neighboring hospital, a man and a woman who had been lying on the ground were transported, and their condition was described as being stable when they arrived there.

In addition, another individual was treated at the scene, but they declined to be sent to the hospital.

Due to the fact that the falling crane piece caused damage to the bridge, the route will be closed permanently until the bridge is restored. In addition, the river that flows beneath the bridge was shut down to traffic from the water.

The officials were not immediately able to determine what caused the section of the crane to fall. There will be an investigation conducted by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration as well as Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue.
