Anderson and Goodwin to receive American Academy of Arts and Letters medals  

NEW YORK — Doris Kearns Goodwin, Laurie Anderson, and James C. Horton, who is the president of the Harlem School of the Arts, are the recipients of honors from the American Academy of Arts and Letters.

On Friday, the Academy of American History made the announcement that Goodwin, the historian who won the Pulitzer Prize, will be receiving a Gold Medal for biography.

 A Gold Medal in the field of music will be awarded to Anderson, who is widely recognized as an avant-garde artist.

Because of his "significant contribution to the arts," Horton, who has been in the field of education for decades and has been the head of the famed Harlem school since 2022, is being recognized for his accomplishments.

In the month of May, when the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences will formally induct its new members, including the novelist Alice McDermott and the composer John Williams

who won an Academy Award, all three will be presented with their respective awards.
