Basic Green Bean Casserole Ingredients: Trimmed and blanched green beans: 1 pound, fresh or frozen. Condensed Cream of Mushroom Soup: 1 can (10.5 ounces). Milk: 1/2 cup. 1 1/2 cups French Fried Onions, divided.

Salt: To taste. Add black pepper to taste. Optional garlic powder adds taste. Butter: Optional for richness.

Instructions: Heat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Mix cream of mushroom soup, milk, salt, pepper, and garlic powder in a bowl. Mix well. Toss blanched green beans in mixture to coat.

Put the green bean mixture in a greased baking dish. Top the green bean mixture with 1 cup of French-fried onions. Use butter to top for extra richness. The dish should be bubbling and the onions golden brown after 25–30 minutes in the preheated oven.

After baking, add the remaining 1/2 cup of French fried onions on top and serve. Variations: Shredded cheddar cheese adds richness and flavor to green bean casserole. You can also add cheese before baking.

Bacon, Onion Casserole: Crumble crispy bacon and add it to green beans and sautéed onions for a smokey, flavorful flavor. For a fresh, aromatic flavor, toss blanched green beans with olive oil, minced garlic, and your favorite herbs like thyme, rosemary, or parsley before adding them to the casserole dish.
