The Poetry Academy has bestowed its First Book Award upon "Little Mercy" by Robin Walter.

NEW YORK— "Little Mercy," a collection of verse written by Robin Walter that is his first collection of poetry and honors the natural environment, has been awarded the First Book Award by the Academy of American Poets in 2024.

Walter will be awarded $5,000 in addition to a residency in Umbria, Italy, for a period of six weeks. Graywolf Press, an independent publishing company the likes of which have published works by authors such as Maggie Smith, Elizabeth Alexander,

and Tracy K. Smith, a former poet laureate of the United States, will be the publisher of her book in the following year. A large number of copies are going to be purchased by the academy itself, and then they will be distributed to members.

The book that was selected was written by another poet named Victoria Chang, who, in a statement released on Wednesday, referred to her work as "melodious and wise."

Showcasing a perceptive speaker with a keen eye, the beautiful and meditative poems in 'Little Mercy' are painterly," Chang remarked. "Little Mercy" is a collection of poems. "

"These poems ask us to look at all the natural beauty and cruelty (but mostly beauty) that we face each day, every minute, and every second of our strange time on this earth," the poets said in a quiet and gentle manner.

Jenny Xie, Alberto Rios, and Sally Van Doren are just a few of the authors who have won the book award in the past. The academy introduced the honor for the first time in 1975.
