Xi Jinping and Biden discuss Russia-Ukraine war, Taiwan, election security, and drugs. (PART-2)

 The person said U.S. worries regarding China's destabilizing actions in the South China Sea, especially Chinese coast guard ships' recent threats to Philippine maritime operations, should be discussed.

“We will not let the separatist activities and external connivance and support of the ‘Taiwan independence’ forces go unchecked,” Xi told the news agency. “We hope the U.S. will follow Mr. President's positive statement against ‘Taiwan independence'”

The senior administration source highlighted that Biden and Xi last spoke by phone in July 2022, met in Bali in November 2022, and conducted a summit in California in November.

The White House said Biden and Xi had a “candid and constructive discussion on a range of bilateral, regional and global issues, including areas of cooperation and areas of difference.”

The White House said leaders discussed and encouraged progress on counternarcotics cooperation, military-to-military communication, AI dangers, and climate challenges.

Biden emphasized the U.S.' interest in ByteDance divesting its ownership of TikTok, a proposal U.S. lawmakers have advanced to protect national security and U.S. citizens' data, Kirby said at the briefing.

According to Xinhua, Xi accused the U.S. of having “launched an endless stream of measures to suppress” China's economy, trade, and technology and of expanding penalties against Chinese enterprises.

The White House said Biden and Xi supported high-level diplomacy and working-level engagements in the next weeks and months, including Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen and Secretary of State Antony Blinken's visits.
